BREEAM for schools under threat Having already begun to reduce BREEAM requirements under its academies programme, the government is now considering scrapping them for new schools under its £2bn priority schools programme. This is part of its drive to streamline procurement and reduce costs. Average value of contracts fell by 15% in 2011 Research by Glenigan and CNinsight has found that the average value of contracts for the top 50 contractors during 2011 shrank to £8.7m, a 15% fall from the £10.3m average for 2010 and the lowest level since before the recession in 2008. This reflects the move by larger contractors to chase smaller projects in order to maintain workloads CPA predicts 5% fall in output in 2012 After a 2% rise in output in 2011, CPA expects a 5% fall this year, followed by a flat 2013 and a 3-4% growth in 2014. The Association’s central forecast reflects the increasing pessimism of the UK’s economic performance, coupled with sharp public sector cuts, Prospects for the public sector are particularly bleak for 2012 and 2013. Feed In Tariffs Update Chris Huhne has amended proposals for the reduction in Tariffs to apply from April 2012, not December 2011 as originally announced. The cuts will now apply to schemes installed on or after 3 March, even though the judicial review is ongoing. . |
